Revenues from contractor fees worldwide up almost 10% last year

At its 48th annual general meeting held in Brussels in mid-May, the Association of Organizations for the Collective Management of Contractors’ Rights SCAPR welcomed a significant increase in collected compensation in 2022. Last year, SCAPR’s members, including AIPA, collected 9.3 % percent or 75 million more benefits than in 2021.

In 2022, the 56 members of the SCAPR organization collected 875 million euros in compensation for the use of music and AV works. Broadcasting on radio and television represents 31% of the revenue structure, public performance 26.6%, and private reproduction 24%. Last year, with the help of 764 concluded mutual agreements, SCAPR members exchanged 178 million euros intended for their members whose works were used abroad. The sum of compensations collected worldwide is growing and was estimated at 1.3 billion euros in 2022. ” The increase in the sum of the compensations shows our greater efficiency, all with the aim of returning to the creative sector what is due to it due to use. I am sure that the collected compensation will grow even more in the future, as the legal environment for players is actually just getting established” AIPE director Gregor Štibernik, re-elected member of SCAPR’s board of directors and head of the Cooperation and Development Group at SCAPR, said at the assembly.

New members and higher international labor protection

At the general assembly, three new members joined SCAPR, the organizations ESHKOLOT from Israel, GNRA from Georgia and GOS from Serbia. At the same time, with the desire to encourage greater involvement of contractors in the organization, they also considered new, broader terms of membership. SCAPR also introduced efforts to make the International Performer Number (IPN) the primary and central identifier for music and audiovisual artists. Activities for the most efficient functioning of the VRDB database (SCAPR’s central collection) are also continuing, in which the rights of performers on sound recordings and audiovisual works are tracked.
