Parliamentary question of the European Parliament: Artificial intelligence and film-making

For the first time, artificial intelligence may be posing a threat to the creative professions.

Their fear has to do with the use of artificial intelligence in film-making. Specifically, producers appear to have asked if they can scan the faces of artists who are not in leading roles. They pay them a wage and can thereafter keep and use their likenesses in whatever film they want, without consent or any reward.

We have an obligation to protect people working in the arts. Technology should be used to solve problems and meet needs and not to create out-of-work actors.

What steps is the Commission taking to protect Europe’s actors from the uncontrolled or wrong use of technology?
